The People Renaissance Movement (PRM) party has condemned the increasing disruption of political gatherings, calling on security agencies to take immediate action against “political goonism” to ensure national stability.

Speaking during a presser on Monday, April 27, 2026, the party officials expressed concern over what they termed as an increase in organised disruptions linked to political activities.

The PRM leaders further condemned the recent disturbances at rallies and meetings, specifically those involving the United Opposition and Linda Mwananchi, and emphasised that the government holds a fundamental responsibility to protect its citizens rather than allow them to be harmed.

“For those disrupting rallies and meetings, especially the United opposition meetings of Linda Mwananchi. I think it is the responsibility of the government to protect its people, not to harm them, and it is clear that the hands behind these goons are becoming obvious by the day,” a party official said.

Govt must act

The party noted that the hands behind these goons are becoming increasingly apparent.

“As a party, our position is for a peaceful country, a peaceful country where citizens’ right to assemble is respected,” he said.

The PRM’s call for intervention is driven by a desire to avoid the uncertainty and violence witnessed during the 2008 election period.

The party reiterated that for Kenya to remain peaceful, the rights of citizens to hold political engagements and assemble freely must be upheld and protected by the law.

“Therefore, we really want to condemn and urge the security agents to take measures and urgent measures for that matter to arrest perpetrators of these acts of Goonism because we do not want to walk to an election that is uncertain, especially having witnessed what happened in 2008,” the party official said.

“PM is a party that stands for a peaceful Kenya, and therefore we urge that the right of Kenyans to assemble and hold political engagement should be respected.”

Opposition leaders attacks

Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka has recounted an incident in which he claims he was harassed by unknown individuals in Bondo, Siaya County, ahead of a planned political rally in Kisumu.

In a statement on Saturday, April 25, 2026, evening, Onyonka said the confrontation occurred while he was on his way to Kang’o Ka Jaramogi and briefly stopped at a restaurant near Bondo for a meal.

According to the Kisii Senator, a group of individuals approached him shortly after he settled in and began questioning his presence in the region.

“This evening,  on my way to Kang’o KaJaramogi, I made a stopover in one restaurant near Bondo where I intended to have a meal. A few minutes later, goons appeared and started harassing me, saying that I can’t eat in Luo, Nyanza, because I’m a Kisii and opposing William Ruto,” Onyonka stated.

Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi also suffered injuries in an attack in Kisumu on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, and officials airlifted him to Nairobi for treatment.

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna broke the news on his X account. He said he had spoken to Osotsi’s team and confirmed the details.

“I have spoken to Senator Osotsi’s team and confirmed that he was viciously attacked and injured in Kisumu earlier today when he went to get a haircut,” Sifuna wrote.

“The Senator is being airlifted to Nairobi as we speak.”
