Orwoba: Ndindi Nyoro may vie for Nairobi governor seat

By , March 21, 2026

Former nominated senator Gloria Orwoba has stated that there is a high possibility of Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro vying for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat in 2027.

While speaking during the Iko Nini Podcast on Friday, March 20, 2026, the outspoken former senator noted that among those who have already declared interest in the city’s top seat, Ndindi Nyoro should not be ruled out and ought to be considered a serious contender in the formation seeking to unseat the incumbent governor.

“It will be too early for Nairobi’s gubernatorial lineup up to be seen, but i will also tell Nairobians not to wish away Ndidi Nyoro; he also wants a seat in Nairobi,” she said.

Orwoba also floated the possibility of Embakasi East MP Babu Owino running on a joint ticket with Nyoro.

However, she expressed doubt about the feasibility of such an arrangement, questioning who would agree to deputise the other between the two.

According to her, both are established politicians with strong track records in their constituencies and enjoy significant support among Kenyans, particularly Nairobi residents and youths.

She added that even if they agreed to partner, another challenge would arise, arguing that a young gubernatorial candidate would typically require a slightly older running mate, further complicating the chances of such a ticket materialising.

Babu’s partnership with Ndidi

Her remarks come just days after Babu Owino, who has been vocal about his gubernatorial ambitions, proposed a potential partnership with his Kiharu counterpart. He described their possible alliance as one of the strongest and “hottest” tickets capable of winning any elective seat, even suggesting it could extend to the presidential level.

Owino further stated that bringing Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna into the mix would elevate the alliance and possibility of winning to another level.

Itakuwa moto; it will be an amazing ticket kwanza sifuna akiongezwa hapo,” Babu said.

In a light-hearted remark, he suggested that if they were to vie for the presidency, he would take the top seat, with Nyoro serving as his deputy. He justified this by citing a recent Infotrak report indicating his popularity in the Luo Nyanza region.

On his 2027 Nairobi gubernatorial bid, Owino has exuded confidence, claiming he has already secured victory and faces no worthy competitor. He added that he would serve only one term before pursuing a presidential bid in 2032.

Ndidi Nyoro’s political moves

On the part of Ndindi Nyoro, who in 2024 was widely viewed as a rising political force in the Mount Kenya region and across the country, especially after traversing various regions holding public engagements, he has since maintained a relatively low profile following the impeachment of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

To date, Nyoro has not publicly declared which seat he will contest in 2027. However, he has occasionally spoken out against government excesses, criticising certain actions while remaining measured on others.

He has maintained that he will announce his political ambitions at the appropriate time.
