Orengo hails Gen Z turnout in voter registration drive, urges youth to take action
Siaya Governor James Orengo has lauded the impressive turnout of young voters during the ongoing Niko Kadi voter registration drive.
Taking to his official X account on Sunday, April 5, 2026, Orengo praised the efforts of the Niko Kadi initiative team led by Allans Ademba, noting their commitment to engaging the younger generation in the democratic process.
“I dropped by the Niko KADI registration drive today and was blown away by the Gen Z turnout! Allan Ademba and the team are doing a fantastic job,” Orengo stated.
The seasoned politician and lawyer urged young Kenyans to recognise the power of their vote, particularly in influencing local and national leadership.
He encouraged them to complete their voter registration promptly, highlighting the importance of possessing a voter card as a key step in participating in upcoming elections.
“If we want to send ‘Kaongo’ home, we must be registered voters. The secret is in the card—Siri ni kuchukua kadi!” Orengo stated.

Niko Kadi initiative
The Niko Kadi campaign, targeting first-time voters and unregistered citizens, has seen robust participation across urban and rural counties.
Organisers, while taking advantage of the ongoing Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration Exercise, aim to ensure that every eligible Kenyan, especially young people, is registered and ready to exercise their democratic rights ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Linda Mwananchi embraces Niko Kadi
The Linda Mwananchi faction of the Orange Democratic Movement Party had called on Kenyans to register as voters to take part in the forthcoming general election slated for 2027.
In a move seen to embrace the trending ‘Niko kadi’ slogan, the leaders said that the only way to elect good governance into leadership is to ensure that citizens register in large numbers as voters.
Speaking at a public rally in Tononoka Grounds in Mombasa County on Sunday, March 29, 2026, the leaders led by Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino called on the young people to register as voters to ensure that the current regime under President William Ruto does not get back to power in the 2027 term, terming it ‘oppressive’ and responsible for the challenges that the Kenyans are facing.
“Ili mabadiliko iwe hii Kenya, ni lazima tujisajili kama wapiga kura. Mimi niko kadi. Kura yako itakupatia afya bora, sio bora afya. Tuko na seriklali ya upuzi na usherati, kwahivyo naomba mchukue kura ili Ruto aende nyumbani asubuhi,” Babu Owino said.

At the time, Orengo urged supporters at Tononoka Grounds to start organising early for the 2027 General Election, stressing the importance of voter readiness and vigilance.
“Winning an election in 2027 starts now. I want you to prepare yourselves – be ready, be registered,” Orengo said.
Orengo questioned whether the attendees had voter cards describing the upcoming election as a decisive moment for Kenya, promising a new political direction.
“This time around in 2027, there will be no stealing of votes. We will show up everywhere in Mombasa, Nakuru, Nairobi, Kisumu, and Turkana to ensure the will of the people is respected,” Orengo added.
