Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Acting Secretary General Catherine Omanyo has stated what Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna should do to be reinstated to his position.

According to Omanyo, Sifuna must toe the line and follow the party’s position.

While speaking during an interview with a local radio station on Sunday, April 11, 2026, Omanyo said that the ODM party does not dismiss anyone from the party, giving an example of President William Ruto, saying that despite leaving the party many years ago, he is still a life member of the Orange Party to date.

“It is his choice if he wants to be retained; he must toe the party’s position,” Omanyo stated.

Omanyo further stated that it all lies with Sifuna on whether he wants to be shown the door or retain his seat at the party helm, but the bare minimum is that he must toe the party position, since, according to her, nobody in the party has a personal vendetta with the Nairobi senator.

She emphasised that ODM is a democratic party that allows everyone to air out their opinions, although she has in the past argued that even with democracy, there must be boundaries.

She further affirmed that there is a bigger chance of Sifuna retaining his seat, but that will only happen if he takes into consideration the demands of an SG, which, according to her, is being a spokesman of the party.

“There is a big chance of Sifuna retaining his position only if he remembers that as an SG you are the spokesman of the party and not for personal ambitions. What the party passes is the final,” she explained.

What should Sifuna do?

On whether Sifuna should join the “Tutam” bandwagon or support Ruto’s re-election to retain his seat, as most ODM members are doing, Omanyo clarified that it is not all about “Tuma Tu” or “Wantam”.

According to her, the late Raila Odinga had given a clear direction that it was not a matter of “Tutam” or “Wantam”, but that the party was in collaboration with William Ruto to stabilise the country, and this does not mean it will extend past 2027.
