Former nominated senator Millicent Omanga has publicly apologised to retired President Uhuru Kenyatta for disregarding his political advice during the 2022 General Election and supporting the current Kenya Kwanza administration.

In a statement shared on her social media platforms on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, Omanga admitted that she and others who backed the current regime had failed to heed Uhuru’s warnings and were now facing the reality of their decision.

“Mzee, we are truly sorry for not listening to your warning. As human beings, we are prone to mistakes, and today we have learned the hard way. Tusamehe sana,” she wrote.

The outspoken Nairobi Woman Representative hopeful also appealed to Kenyans to forgive some of the leaders who campaigned for the current administration, saying their intentions were never to see the country suffer.

“We are also asking fellow Kenyans to forgive some of us, because our intentions were never to see our country suffer. We are praying for forgiveness, wisdom, and better days for Kenya,” she stated.

Omanga added that Uhuru’s earlier remarks ahead of the 2022 elections had now proved accurate.

“Your words now carry the painful truth we failed to see,” she said.

Her statement comes days after Kenyatta revisited his 2022 campaign warnings against electing the current administration, arguing that many of the challenges facing the country today were issues he had cautioned Kenyans about during the election period.

Speaking on Monday during a Jubilee Party delegates’ meeting at Kiambu Golf Club, Uhuru urged Kenyans — particularly residents of Kiambu and the wider Mt Kenya region — to carefully evaluate their political choices ahead of the 2027 General Election.

“I warned you in 2022, but you didn’t listen. Now you are crying,” Uhuru said.

The former president also called for unity within the Mt Kenya region, warning against political divisions that could weaken the community and derail development.

He urged voters to focus on leadership, development and performance rather than political rhetoric during future campaigns.

“When they come to your areas, kindly take the money, but when the election comes, vote wisely,” he told delegates.

Omanga was among prominent Mt Kenya and Nairobi politicians who strongly backed President William Ruto during the 2022 presidential race after Uhuru endorsed opposition leader Raila Odinga under the Azimio coalition.

Her remarks are likely to spark fresh political debate within Kenya Kwanza ranks amid growing criticism of the government’s economic policies and rising political realignments ahead of the 2027 polls.
