Olekina calls for dialogue amid ODM crisis

By , February 13, 2026

Narok senator Ledama Olekina has called on the Orange Democratic Movement, ODM, to consider negotiations and dialogue to resolve internal divisions in the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Taking it to his social media X handle on Friday, February 13, 2026, Ledama Olekina has urged the members of the party to rally for unity through structured dialogue and grassroots reconciliation ahead of the National Delegates Convention set to be conducted by the party.

“We must not allow ODM to approach 2027 with weakened negotiating clout amid deepening internal divisions. Instead, we must rally for unity through structured dialogue, grassroots reconciliation, and a decisive National Delegates Convention to forge a cohesive strategy,” Olekina said.

The outspoken Narok Senator has said that the ODM party should not head to the 2027 elections in conflict, and therefore, measures to resolve them should be undertaken to ensure the party remains strong.

Sifuna’s ouster

In what has been seen as an escalation of the wrangles within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) National Executive Committee (NEC) on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, the committee announced that it had relieved Secretary General Edwin Sifuna of his duties with immediate effect.

Speaking in Mombasa, the committee announced that Deputy Secretary General Catherine Omanyo will serve in an acting capacity until a substantive office holder is elected.

“The Party National Executive Committee meeting in Mombasa today has resolved to relieve SG @edwinsifuna of his responsibilities with immediate effect,” ODM stated.

Sifuna’s removal halted

In a quick turn of events, the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal (PPDT) has temporarily halted the removal of Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna as ODM secretary general.

The ruling was made after Sifuna challenged the party’s Wednesday decision.

“That pending the hearing and determination of this instant application, inter partes, this Honourable Tribunal hereby issues orders staying the implementation of the resolution made by the National Executive Committee of the Orange Democratic Movement Party on 11th February, 2026, to remove Edwin Sifuna as the secretary general of the party,” PPDT acting chairperson Gad Gathu ruled.

The certified Sifuna’s application as urgent, ordering that the complaint and notice of motion be served on the respondents immediately.
