ODM set for leadership changes as party announces date for grassroots polls

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party is set for a major leadership shakeup following the confirmation of the grassroots polls.
In a notice on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, the opposition outfit notified its members that the elections will pave the way for the picking of new leaders. According to ODM’s National Elections Coordinating Committee (NECC), the sub-branch (ward) elections will take place on Monday, April 7, 2025.
The exercise will be conducted across designated centers across the 47 counties.

Constituency polls
After the conclusion of sub-branch polls, ODM will again embark on the process of selecting new officials at the constituency level. The exercise is expected to be held across the 290 constituencies starting on Wednesday, April 9, 2025.
“The party elections at the Ward (Sub-Branch) and Constituency (Branch) levels will be held on Monday, 7th April, and Wednesday, 9th April 2025, respectively,” ODM’s statement read in part.
“Remember: only elected delegates at polling units are the only ones eligible to participate in the exercise at the Ward level,” it added.

The April voting will take place between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on the respective election dates.
NECC stated that only delegates elected at the polling unit level will be eligible to participate as voters or candidates.
The grassroots polls will allow ODM to prepare for a major shakeup of party leadership trickling up to the mainstream positions.
The mainstream positions include chairperson, deputy chairperson, secretary, deputy secretary, treasurer, deputy treasurer, organizing secretary, and deputy organizing secretary.
There are also the positions of secretary for women, secretary for youth, secretary for disability, and special interest group representative.
Apart from the mainstream, ODM also offers positions in the league and the committees.
The alignment is expected to shape the 2027 polls with some of the new officials poised to flex their muscles for better positions.
