ODM proposes Ahmed Abdullahi for party role left by PS nominee Abdisalan

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has confirmed the resignation of Ahmed Abisalan Ibrahim from his role as the Party’s Organizing Secretary following his nomination as the Principal Secretary for the State Department for National Government Coordination.

The Party’s Central Committee acknowledged the Wajir North MP’s resignation via a presser sent to the media on Wednesday, April 2, 2025. while proposing Ahmed Abdullahi Jiir’s name for the new void left by Abdisalan.

Abdullahi is the sitting governor of Wajir County and the current chairperson of the Council of Governors (CoG).

In the communique, the party conveyed its best wishes for the MP as he angles for his new role under the Office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary, Musalia Mudavadi.

“In addition, the Party has received the resignation of Hon. Abdisalan as our Organizing Secretary following his nomination for the position of PS. We offer him our best wishes in his new role. In the meantime, the Committee has proposed Governor Ahmed Abdullahi Jiir to take his place,” part of the presser stated.

Abdisalan earned nomination for the Principal Secretary role following an executive reshuffle of the government undertaken by President William Ruto on Thursday, March 20, 2025.

According to a press release issued by the Executive Office of the President was appointed to the State Department for National Government Coordination under the Office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary.

In his new role if approved by parliament, he will be tasked with overseeing intergovernmental relations and ensuring seamless coordination between national and county governments.

He joined other ODM-affiliated members in Judith Pareno, Regina Akoth Ombam and Fikirini Jacob among the beneficiaries of the plum government positions following a deal that saw the Orange party sign a work-agreement framework with the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) on Friday, March 7, 2025.

Judith Naiyai Pareno, a seasoned legal expert, was nominated to head the State Department for Justice, Human Rights, and Constitutional Affairs.

On her part, Ombam got the nod to oversee the State Department for Trade under the Ministry of Investments, Trade, and Industry as its new PS.


The changes were designed to harness opportunities within emerging economic sectors while simultaneously addressing pressing socio-economic challenges facing the nation according to a statement from the president office.
