‘ODM is not dead’ – Junet speaks out after party’s bid to oust Sifuna

By , February 12, 2026

National Assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohamed has come out criticising critics’ remarks that the Orange Democratic Party is dead following a recent bid to oust Edwin Sifuna as party Secretary General.

Speaking during the ODM Coastal tour in Lamu County on Thursday, February 12, 2026, Junet stated that ODM as a party has attracted numbers from way back, cautioning individuals spreading propaganda that the party is dead.

Wale watu ambao waneneza uvumi kila saa ati chama imekufa hiyo wamesema ya kutosha,” Junet said.

While maintaining that the ODM party is not dead, the Suna East Member of Parliament announced that the party has just begun its fire.

He went on adding that ODM has many followers in Kenya, describing it as a party for the people.

ODM haiwezi kufa ndo inaanza sasa, ODM ni chama amabaye inawafuasi wengi katika nchi hii ya Kenya, ni chama ya wananchi,” Junet stated.

ODM exit from Azimio coalition

Worth noting, Junet’s remarks come as the party is facing a political shakeup, with the most recent being the bid to oust Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna from his position as the ODM Secretary General.

On the other hand, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has also resolved to formally initiate its withdrawal from the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition, signalling a significant shift in Kenya’s opposition politics.

In resolutions issued following a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in Mombasa on February 11, 2026, the party cited sustained breaches of the coalition’s Deed of Agreement by certain partners as the reason for the move.

“The NEC reviewed recent developments within the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition. It noted with concern that certain erstwhile coalition partners have acted in violation of the Deed of Agreement that established the Coalition,” the resolutions read.

“In light of these sustained breaches and in order to safeguard the integrity, autonomy, and strategic direction of ODM, the NEC resolved to initiate the formal process of withdrawal from the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition in accordance with the applicable legal and constitutional provisions.”
