Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party leader Oburu Oginga has declared that his political movement is preparing to form the next government through strategic unity, mass mobilisation, and coalition-building in a spirited address delivered at Kirembe.

Taking to his official X account on Sunday, May 31, 2026, moments after addressing a large ODM gathering drawn from Siaya, Migori, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Kuria, Maragoli, and Kisii regions at Kirembe grounds in Kisumu, the Siaya Senator expressed gratitude for what he described as overwhelming support from the community, saying their turnout demonstrated the strength of the party’s grassroots base.

Oburu praised supporters for standing firmly with the party leadership, describing them as the backbone of the political movement.

“I look out at this crowd today, and my heart is filled with immense gratitude. Thank you for showing up so overwhelmingly, in such massive numbers,” he said.

He emphasised that unity among supporters from the wider Nyanza and Western Kenya regions remains central to the party’s survival and political relevance.

“This community is the very heartbeat of our party. Without your unity, this party becomes weak,” he added.

Call for unity and political discipline

The senator urged supporters to remain loyal and steadfast, stressing that the movement must remain focused on its founding principles and long-term political objectives.

“My sacred duty as your leader is to ensure that this movement remains united, stable, and focused on our founding aspirations and legacy,” he said.

He further noted that leadership should not be centered on individuals but on the collective strength of the movement, even suggesting that he would be willing to step aside if his leadership ever caused division.

“If there ever comes a time where my leadership brings harm or division to this party, I am completely ready to step aside for the sake of our unity,” he stated.

Forming the next government

Oburu made one of his strongest political declarations yet, confidently stating that the movement is on course to take power in the next general election.

“We are now moving into the next phase of our journey. Our goal is clear; we are going to form the next government,” he declared.

He, however, cautioned that victory would not be achieved through enthusiasm alone, but through structured political organisation and coalition-building.

“But this will only be possible if we speak with one voice. We shall neither be ashamed nor intimidated as we pursue this goal,” he said.

Coalition Strategy and Political Calculations

The senator stressed that future political success would depend on forming alliances based on shared interests, values, and mutual respect.

“We will form the next government through strategic coalitions built on common friendship, shared values, and mutual respect,” he said.

His remarks come at a time when political formations across the country are intensifying behind-the-scenes negotiations ahead of the next election cycle.

Push for voter registration

Oburu also used the rally to urge supporters to register as voters and join the party in large numbers, saying electoral strength is key to political bargaining power.

“Go out and register as members of this party, and make sure you get your voter’s card. In politics, numbers give us a stronger bargaining position and a seat at the table,” he said.

He added that a strong voter base would ensure the party remains influential in shaping national leadership and policy direction.

Looking ahead, Oburu assured supporters that if the movement forms a government, it would prioritise inclusive governance and rely on expert-driven implementation of its agenda.

“When we form that government, we will not forget you. We will continue to be your voice,” he said.

He added that the party would bring in “top-tier experts” to implement its manifesto and ensure effective service delivery.
