Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party leader Oburu Oginga has come out to reprimand broad-based government critics following the strong showing in the just-concluded by-elections.

Speaking in public for the first time after returning from his Dubai trip on Saturday, November 29, 2025, Oburu lashed out at those opposed to the broad-based government arrangement, insisting that the cooperation yielded results in the mini-polls.

Oburu, who attended the wedding of Mohammed Noordin Mohamed Y. Haji, son of National Intelligence Service (NIS) Director-General Noordin Haji, alongside President William Ruto and other dignitaries, maintained that ODM will continue working under the broad-based government even after the by-election success.

“When Raila left us, he left us in the broad-based government, and we will continue with that,” Oburu stated.

Hints at extending the deal

While he did not dismiss the idea that the Orange Democratic Movement would field a candidate in the 2027 general elections, the Siaya Senator appeared to suggest the party would back the current government for a second term.

“We will work with the President until the end. The end of the term is 2027, but from how things are going, we will plan accordingly because we are together,” Oburu stated.

“I would also like to appreciate people from UDA and ODM who have been working, and we trounced our opponents who were saying there was no broad-based government,” he added.

Ruto on by-elections

Earlier on Saturday, November 29, 2025, President Ruto praised the unity within the broad-based government, saying it was the decisive force behind the coalition’s strong performance in the recent by-elections.

Ruto emphasised that the teamwork demonstrated across parties proved that political cohesion remains a powerful tool—one that will continue guiding their approach as the country heads toward the 2027 general election.

“Those who said that there is strength in unity knew what they were talking about because it is that unity that has given us the victories,” the head of state said.

“I want to thank all those who played a role in these victories in Baringo, Banisa, Malava, Magarini, Ugunja, and Kasipul. If there was a demonstration of what unity can do, the last by-election has demonstrated exactly that,” he added.
