Nominated MP Joseph Wainaina Iraya has castigated the Democracy For Citizens Party (CP) leader Rigathi Gachagua over what he described as attempts to auction the community politically to Kalonzo Musyoka.

Speaking in Eldoret on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, the Kenya Kwanza-allied legislator cautioned against subscribing to the kind of politics advocated by the former DP, which he termed as not beneficial.

“I want to warn our community, which is found almost in all corners of this country, not to listen to the politics that cannot help our children or anybody else. We cannot afford to be led astray by one person,” he stated.

We will not be auctioned!

In a direct address to the leader. Wainaina dismissed the United Opposition Alliance of Kalonzo and Gachagua, registering his objection to what he referred to as plans to ‘sell’ the community to the Wiper Party leader, Kalonzo Musyoka.

“My message to Gachagua is that as a community, we will not be auctioned and be sold to Kalonzo like goats. We will not permit that to happen,” he added.

He further castigated Gachagua for upgrading his own political predicaments and making them a problem of the Kikuyu community.

“When you run into troubles, you have to deal with them on your own; do not use the people and the whole community as your shield,” he said.

His remarks come after Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa also waded into the Gachagua-Kalonzo newfound association that is potentially morphing into a coalition ahead of the 2027 elections.

Barasa on Gachagua-Kalonzo unity

Barasa opined that Gachagua’s future ambitions, preferably in the 2032 elections, have informed his decision to support Kalonzo Musyoka ahead of the 2027 polls.

He added that with their chances to unseat President William Ruto in the 2027 polls remaining unlikely, Gachagua’s sole interest in the contest lay in demonstrating solidarity, which he would in turn seek to be reciprocated by the Kamba votes.

“Gachagua is secretly “scheming” to capture the Kamba vote specifically for a 2032 presidential run; he knows President William Ruto will easily defeat Kalonzo in 2027.
