Ngirici slams cabinet secretaries for using taxpayers’ money to campaign for Ruto
Former Kirinyaga Woman Representative Wangui Ngirici has escalated her political criticism of the Kenya Kwanza administration, accusing senior government officials of abandoning service delivery in favour of early political campaigns ahead of the 2027 general election.
Speaking on Saturday, May 9, 2026, during a series of engagements in Njukiini, Kabare, Inoi and Nyangati wards in Kirinyaga County, Ngirici addressed cabinet secretaries, principal secretaries and other senior state officers, stating that they have diverted their attention from governance to political mobilisation using public resources.
She claimed the government has shifted focus from service delivery to premature political mobilisation despite the country facing rising economic pressure, struggling farmers, and growing public frustration.

“Kenyans are tired of endless politics while leaders move around campaigning every day using taxpayers’ money,” she said.
Ngirici said leaders entrusted with public offices must stop engaging in political rallies and instead concentrate on solving the pressing challenges affecting citizens.
According to Ngirici, Kenyans elected the current administration to lower the cost of living, revive key agricultural sectors and improve livelihoods, but the promises made during campaigns remain unfulfilled. She added that they have to resign and join the political field if they want to be part of full-time politics.
“If they want to do politics full-time, let them resign from government and join the political field officially,” she said.
Collapse of critical sectors
The former lawmaker particularly faulted the government over what she described as the collapse of critical sectors that directly affect Mt Kenya farmers. She claimed authorities have failed to address the ongoing tea crisis, including the burden of multiple taxes imposed on tea farmers, saying producers continue to suffer despite repeated promises of reforms.

Ngirici further accused the administration of failing to operationalise SHA effectively, arguing that millions of Kenyans are still struggling to access healthcare while leaders responsible for the sector remain occupied with political battles instead of fixing the system.
“They failed to make SHA work. They failed to solve the tea crisis. They failed to remove the many taxes hurting tea farmers. They promised guaranteed minimum returns for coffee and tea farmers during campaigns, but nothing has been delivered,” she charged.
Defence of Uhuru and Gachagua
She defended retired President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, insisting that the two leaders deserve respect for the roles they played in the country’s leadership and national development.
“Uhuru Kenyatta is a statesman and must be respected. I will not sit down and watch leaders who served this country being disrespected for political convenience,” Ngirici declared.

She maintained that Kirinyaga remains politically influential in the Mt Kenya region and warned national leaders against ignoring the voice of the county, saying the political direction taken by Kirinyaga often influences the wider region.
“Kirinyaga gives Mt Kenya direction. What Kirinyaga decides, many others follow,” she stated.
