Newton Karish speaks for the first time after Mbeere North by-election defeat

The Democratic Party (DP) candidate in the Mbeere North Newton Karish, has issued a message to the area residents after losing the Member of Parliament (MP) race, expressing deep gratitude and reaffirming his commitment to serving the constituency following the recent mini-polls held on Thursday, November 27, 2025.

In a reflective statement released on Friday, December 5, 2025, Karish praised residents for their unity, resilience, and unwavering dedication to the region’s progress.

His message comes shortly after his closest challenger, United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate Leo Wamuthende Njeru, and five other elected Members of Parliament were sworn in on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, in the National Assembly.

Addressing the community, Karish has acknowledged the overwhelming trust and support shown at the ballot, noting that the collective hope of the people continues to inspire his leadership.

“Thank you for giving me a chance at the ballot and for the overwhelming trust you have shown,” he said, emphasising that every achievement made so far reflects the determination and unbreakable spirit of Mbeere North.

Karish has also paid tribute to all segments of the community, the peasants, youth, women, elders, and all residents, recognising their role in shaping a stronger constituency. He highlighted the power of unity, noting that Mbeere North has again proven that when people stand together, no adversity is insurmountable.

Following the conclusion of the by-election, Newton Karish has urged Mbeere North residents to remain calm, peaceful, and patient as the next steps are taken to seek justice regarding the election outcome. His call for restraint comes at a time when emotions in the constituency may be running high.

Looking ahead, the MP aspirant has reaffirmed his commitment to lead with humility, integrity, and dedication in future. He expressed optimism for a more prosperous and inclusive in the coming days, pledging to continue working for development that benefits generations to come.

Meanwhile, after Karish lost to Wamuthende, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who doubles as the Citizens for the Democracy Party (DCP) leader, distanced himself from the defeat after he had been drumming up support for the DP candidate.
