Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has vowed never to join President William Ruto’s political camp.

Natembeya, who spoke to a local television station on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, said that he had never considered working with the head of state or his allies.

He asked Kenyans to take him to Mathari National Hospital on the day he would shake hands with the president.

Natembeya said Ruto had mistreated him for many years and questioned why a mature leader should oppress others over political differences.

He explained that it would be unthinkable to cross over to the government side after the experiences he has faced.

Political tensions

In his message, the Trans Nzoia Governor stated that he has no political relationship with the Head of State.

Also, he dismissed speculation that he could one day soften his stance and work with the government.

“Ruto ameninyanyasa miaka yote hii. Ile siku mtaniona nimevuka serikalini mnishike mnifungie Mathari Mental Hospital,” Natembeya said.

Natembeya also criticised the formation of the broad-based government and vowed to champion opposition.

The remarks have sparked debate among residents and political observers, with some calling his language strong but consistent with his past criticism of the President.

Natembeya insisted that his position is clear and final.

Strong words against Ruto

In addition to that, the governor reminded Kenyans that he has faced humiliation from President Ruto over time, adding that his political journey has not been easy.

He emphasised that as long as political competition exists, it should never be turned into personal oppression.

Natembeya’s latest comments come at a time when speculation has been growing about possible realignments ahead of the 2027 General Election.

“Ruto ameninyanyasa miaka yote hii, mimi nakutana na Ruto wapi, as mature people, kama kuna tofauti za kisiasa na mtu, unamnyanyasa kwa nini?,” Natembeya added.

The governor maintained that his stand will not change and urged Kenyans to watch his actions closely.
