Natembeya explains why he does not want to associate his politics with Sifuna’s
By Mabonga Makhanu, March 5, 2026Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has stated that he does not want to confuse his politics with Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna’s politics.
While speaking during an interview with a local media station on Thursday, March 5, 2025, the outspoken governor emphasised that he does not want to associate his political agenda with that of Edwin Sifuna, who is slowly gaining traction nationally.

He argued that the two leaders have different constituencies, noting that the politics he is currently pursuing are different from what Sifuna is trying to achieve.
Natembeya further stated that his main aim is to represent the Mulembe region, which, according to him, has been left out of development for a long time.
He added that he is focused on uniting the region behind one common agenda so that they can have a seat at the bargaining table in preparation for the 2027 elections. According to Natembeya, this is not what Sifuna is currently prioritising.
“Sifuna has his own constituency, which is different from mine. I do not want to confuse my politics with Sifuna’s politics.”
He also dismissed claims that Sifuna’s rise might dimmish his clout, emphasising that their politics dont intersect anywhere
Natembeya added that the region already has the numbers to give it a bargaining advantage in next year’s polls. He said he is ready to be a vessel to represent the community at the negotiation table and that they cannot afford another year of being left out in the political cold.
Natembeya-Sifuna force

This comes days after analysts viewed the duo as a possible reincarnation of former Luhya leaders such as Masinde Muliro and Wamalwa Kijana, who led the community and were seen as potential future national leaders from the region.
Unlike Natembeya, who has concentrated his politics locally by holding rallies across Western Kenya and moving from county to county, where he has even been crowned the Luhya spokesperson, Sifuna has been focusing on a nationwide outlook through his “Linda Mwananchi” tours in different counties.
However, their political paths might soon align, as Sifuna has already shown willingness to partner with the United Opposition, where Natembeya is among the principals.
