Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has faulted the move by Raila Odinga to close ranks with the Kenya Kwanza movement, saying it caught him by surprise.

Speaking in Trans Nzoia on Friday, March 28, 2025, Natembeya, who was part of the Azimio coalition, revealed his astonishment at Raila’s decision to join Ruto.

Natemebeya stated that they were eagerly awaiting the downfall of the Kenya Kwanza regime following the political upheavals in the country only for Raila to move the rescue of president William Ruto’s administration.

“When we were defeated in the 2022 elections, we accepted our fate and moved on after Ruto was elected. After the government got into problems with Rigathi Gachagua and others, we in the opposition were waiting for them to fail and get in to form the government. But Raila moved in to offer him(Ruto) the support,” he said.

“What kind of politics is that? When the government fails, the opposition doesn’t come to its rescue. You leave it to collapse, and people go to elections, and you move to form the government,” he added.

“I cannot accept that Raila has gone there to address issues to do with Azimio. He has gone to mend those of the Kenya Kwanza government, like the failed SHA, the confusion in CBC, and others,” he added.

The outspoken governor further promised to continue speaking on the ills of the government, arguing that it is a way of getting such issues redressed.

Natembeya, who has been advocating for an alternative leadership with his Tawe movement, further pointed an accusing finger at unnamed politicians whom he accused of betraying the people after joining the government.

“Our MPS, who are supposed to speak on behalf of the citizens, have entered into the government. They are silent because they were told not to talk with food in their mouths by our parents. They have left you alone. When I speak for you, they go to discuss me in the State House, saying I am rude,” he said.

The governor’s remarks follow his sensational claims that the government attempted to kill him during the burial of former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairman Wafula Chebukati.

Speaking at a fertilizer distribution event in Trans Nzoia on Friday, March 28, 2025, Natembeya asserted that he was a target due to his persistent criticism of President William Ruto’s administration.

“The government is not good, the government has bad people. Recently at Chebukati’s, they almost killed me. They placed thugs there… That’s when I realized these people can kill me at any time. And I have accepted, my people, even if I go, this seed I plant in your souls should not die, do we understand, my people?”

Adding:

That’s the truth, that’s the truth the government kills people, I know they can finish me. But even if I go, my people remember Natembeya told us something,” he added.
