Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has stated that President William Ruto has the full backing of the Mt Kenya region.

Speaking during a sitdown between grassroots leaders from Kirinyaga County and Ruto at State House on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, Waiguru reiterated that they will fully back the president come 2027.

She added that those opposing the head of state will be left in shock by the number of votes he will get during the 2027 elections.

“We will not only go round Kirinyaga but the entire Mt Kenya region, and they will be surprised by the number of votes Ruto will get. Will that not be the case?” the governor posed.

The vocal leader warned critics that their silence should not be misinterpreted as weakness.

“If we managed the 2017 one and also the 2022 one, will this one of 2027 defeat us? They shouldn’t think just because we are silent it means we are afraid,” Waiguru commented.

The fiery politician reiterated that the people of the region are not the type to be bought.

She further noted that those challenging the president do not have a united front.

“If you look at the other side, they are not united. They have like six presidential candidates. Between Ruto and them, who has good plans for Kenya?” the Kirinyaga boss questioned.

Waiguru revealed that the collaboration between the County Government of Kirinyaga and the national government brought about several achievements.

During the same meeting, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki backed Waiguru on her remarks about the opposition.

Kindiki insisted that Waiguru should be respected.

“Those who tour Kirinyaga and Central should respect leaders from Kirinyaga. Respect Waiguru, our MPs and our MCAs,” the DP asserted.

He further blasted leaders calling themselves kingpins in the Mt Kenya region.

The fiery DP remarked that the political stronghold has produced great leaders who have never at any point declared themselves kingpins.

Kindiki stated that former President Uhuru Kenyatta and the late Mwai Kibaki did not bestow upon themselves such a title.

“I have been in politics for a short time, and we have had prominent leaders before. Of those leaders, none of them came to boast to us the way some others are doing now,” Kindiki stated.
