MP Wamboka questions Ruto’s silence on Jirongo’s death after visiting his family
By Mabonga Makhanu, December 18, 2025The Bumula Member of Parliament has questioned the silence by President William Ruto on the death of former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo, despite paying a condolence visit to his family at their home in Gigiri.
While speaking during a press conference after visiting the home of the late Jirongo on Thursday, December 18, 2025, shortly after the President’s visit, the MP questioned why the President could not utter a word concerning the death of his former Youth for KANU 1992 (YK92) boss, despite having visited the family.
He said it was expected that the President would issue a brief statement on the death of Cyrus Jirongo during his visit, especially at a time when there are many controversies and inconsistencies surrounding the death of the former vibrant politician.

However, according to him, the President merely made an appearance and left without addressing the country.
He further stated that the President owes the nation an explanation of what led to the death of the former leader, who was once his close friend and had in recent days been very critical of the President.
“The President has been here. I expected the President to come out and give a brief on what killed Jirongo. Anakuja chini ya maji alafu anaenda. Sisi tunauliza rais, nani aliuwa Jirongo?” he said.
The MP noted that Luhya leaders want answers, stating that leaders from the Western region have also had their lives cut short under similar circumstances.
He went on to say that leaders from the Western region will not let the matter rest and will use all available means to ensure that the cause of Jirongo’s death is unravelled and brought to light.

He added that together with his Saboti counterpart, Caleb Amisi, they will use Parliament to address the issue and leave no stone unturned.
The president’s visit to Jirongo’s home
This comes after the president visited Jirongo’s homestead, who died following a head-on collision with a Climax Coach bus in a road accident at the Karai area in Naivasha while returning to the city.

The President was welcomed by a section of leaders who had been organising funeral arrangements for the late Jirongo ahead of his burial in Lumakanda on August 30, 2025. They included former Westlands MP Fred Gumo and former Vihiga Senator George Khaniri, among others.

He was also welcomed by Jirongo’s three wives, made a brief address to the mourners at the homestead, and later left.
This comes at a time when friends and family of the late Jirongo lead by Khaniri, are calling for a thorough investigation into the events surrounding his death. Despite a postmortem analysis conducted on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, they remain unconvinced by the findings, which indicated that he died from blunt force trauma to the chest.
