MP Rosa Buyu reveals ODM’s new strategy to fight for public interest

Kisumu West Member of Parliament (MP) Rosa Buyu has disclosed the party’s determination to embrace a dialogue-based approach to the solutions for problems facing Kenyans over street action.
Speaking during a live interview with a local TV on Thursday, February 27, 2025, Buyu maintained that the party’s change in tack has been informed by undesirable effects brought about by their swarming the streets in agitating for the rights of Kenyans and pushing the government to action.
The lawmaker further stated that the party is keen on exploiting new avenues to bring solutions, stressing the need for dialogue over constant protest.
Buyu has reiterated that the party will retain its people-centred status and steadfastness in its championing for the rights of individuals.
“We have been on the streets to bring changes; we know what has happened. What is happening is not a scramble for jobs. What Raila Odinga said is that people are now talking.
“People are now talking about SHA, corruption, and other things. The question is now if there is a better way of skinning a cat. In the past, we have seen deaths and families crying out from these protests. We are trying a different method,” the MP remarked.
Additionally, Buyu urged patience in terms of mitigating the various challenges faced by the government while advocating for a reasonable approach from the administration to the issues bedevilling their policies.

She further added that they will continue to engage the government and propose solutions to challenges like the Social Health Authority (SHA) scheme, corruption, and its stance on major policy issues.
“In terms of education, health, and other things not working, it needs time. I want to tell the president that there is strength in reviewing what you’re doing and bringing people together to seek solutions. I think it is a work in progress, and I hope the president and his people will be magnanimous enough to relook and bring fundamental solutions to critical issues like health education and issues like abductions getting solutions,” she said.
The MP remarks come amid a looming possibility of the party stepping up its broad-based relationship with Ruto’s government.
The development coming after Raila on his return to the country following his African Union Commission (AUC) election loss met with Ruto in what many viewed as a precursor to an alliance between the two.
