Manyatta Constituency Member of Parliament, Gitonga Mukunji, has not even let the dust settle before unleashing his rebuttal against Deputy President Kithure Kindiki after the latter claimed that Embu County had become a haven of political anarchy.
Speaking to a local TV station on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, the MP lashed out at the second-in-command, stating that whoever advises the DP is misleading him, as his intel about Embu being a hotspot for political violence was completely inaccurate.
He argued that the Deputy President had blatantly misrepresented Embu and that even if his claims were true, it was wrong for him to profile the county in such a manner—just as it would be for Kondele, which he mentioned in his remarks since all these regions are part of Kenya.
“I want to dissuade the Deputy President from painting Embu in the wrong light and from saying that Embu is the new Kondele. And I want to say this with all due respect—all the areas he mentioned are part of Kenya,” Mukunji asserted.
Kindiki’s complaints
The MP was responding to remarks made earlier in the day by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, who expressed his disappointment that Embu had seemingly taken over the long-held title of Kisumu’s Kondele—a region historically associated with political unrest and violence.
Kindiki, while addressing Tharaka Nithi leaders on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, claimed that certain leaders had been inciting central Kenya residents into acts of violence and disruption, creating a worrying trend in the region.
During his speech, the DP took aim at his predecessor, Rigathi Gachagua, accusing him of attending every event—whether invited or not—just to stir chaos and incite the public against President William Ruto.

It was at this point that Kindiki claimed that, besides Gachagua, there was another male leader in Embu who had been hiring and inciting young people to stage back-to-back protests in the county, sometimes even blocking the Embu-Nairobi highway.
“For the first time, I was utterly disheartened to see people burning each other’s property in Karatina. In Embu, for the first time. You know who owns that shop, yet you go ahead and set it ablaze. Dangerous politics fueled by poor leadership. And I am not saying leaders shouldn’t listen. They should listen and seek solutions. Today, Kisumu’s Kondele, which used to be the most volatile area in Kenya, has been overtaken by Embu. There is a young man in Embu who thinks he’s famous, rallying youths to block roads,” Kindiki declared.
Mukunji clarifies
However, in his response to the Deputy President, Mukunji admitted that he did, in fact, call upon some youth to protest, but he insisted that the demonstrations were not driven by incitement but rather by the abduction of one of their own.
He dismissed Kindiki’s claims that property had been destroyed during the protests or that any of the demonstrators were armed, further urging the DP to stop wasting taxpayers’ time with misleading narratives.
“We were looking for a young man named Billy Mwangi. No property was destroyed, and nobody was harmed. I don’t understand why the Deputy President is using taxpayers’ time to tell the people of Tharaka Nithi about Embu matters. This is totally misleading,” Mukunji stated.
He went on to defend the protests, asserting that it was because of their demonstrations that Billy Mwangi was eventually released from where he had been taken. He emphasized that Embu residents would continue standing in solidarity with their people, refusing to be intimidated.
