Former Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has slammed former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua over claims that the Akarino church visit to State House was driven by personal interests.

While speaking during a church service attended by President William Ruto on Sunday, April 12, 2026, Kuria criticised Gachagua, stating that members of the Akarino church have every right to visit State House just like any other religious denomination.

Dressed in Akarino attire, he went on to say that the Akarino community played a significant role in bringing the current regime to power and, therefore, deserves its rightful share and recognition.

“Mheshimiwa rais hii nchi imejaa ujeuri, leo nimeamka Napata kwa mtandao mtu anasema ati wamekuja statehouse na tumbo zao, na huyo mtu ambaye ansema hivyo yeye ameacha tumbo yake nyumbani,” Moses Kuria stated.

Gachagua attacks Akorino members

This came after former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, on the morning of the Akarino visit to State House, made remarks criticising the delegation’s intentions, claiming they were motivated by personal gain.

He said that for those from the Akarino community who attended the State House meeting, they should “speak for their stomachs and not for the community”, adding that they were joining “a long list of people who have betrayed their own for personal benefit”.

“William Ruto, you have now crossed the red line. Destroying our cultural shrine and sending police to beat and humiliate our elders is declaring war on our community. You have this morning summoned members the Akorino sect to the State House to pray for you and sanitise you for profiling and persecuting our community.

“For the Akorino going to State House, please speak for your stomachs, not us. You join the long list of traitors who have turned against their own to fill their stomachs.”

Role played by Akorino

Moses Kuria continued to shower praises on the Akorino sect, saying that they have played a vital role in the building of the country, including the fight for independence.

Noting that the reason behind members of this sect being marginalised is that they spent more time in the tunnels trying to fight for democracy, when resources were being shared by other Kenyans.
