Former Trade Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has hinted at a possible political alliance with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, signalling a potential shift in Mount Kenya ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Kuria addressed Gachagua directly on X, on Saturday, October 11, 2025, calling him the undisputed Kingpin of the region.

“To my brother Rigathi Gachagua. I am an honest man. By now you know that. It is an undeniable fact that majority of our Mt Kenya people listen to you,” Kuria said.

He added that, like the partnership between Gideon Moi and President William Ruto, he might soon consider working with Gachagua.

“You are ahead of the rest of us. You are edging closer to be our undisputed Kingpin in the Mountain. In fact just like Gideon Moi and William Ruto are working together, I might consider working with you very soon.”

“I have only one humble request. Kindly refrain from insulting our leaders in general, our women leaders in particular and all Mt Kenya women by extension. Doesn’t really sound commensurate with your undisputed kingpin status. Kindly sir. With profound respect!”

Kuria’s statement builds on remarks he made in August, when he promised to defend Gachagua’s political rights.

“I pointed out the mistakes of Rigathi Gachagua, which I will still point out even today. One of them is that we cannot conduct politics as we used to in the 1990s,” he said. He stressed that tribal politics have no place in modern Kenya. “Every angel has a past, and every sin has a future,” he added.

Despite Kuria’s outreach, Gachagua has maintained caution towards him. In September, he warned voters in Mbeere North against supporting Duncan Mbui, a candidate backed by Kuria’s Chama Cha Kazi (CCK).

“Since Kuria is affiliated with Ruto, he was sent with his party, and they gave it to Mbui. So if you give him votes, you are dividing our votes so that Ruto can win,” Gachagua said. He accused President Ruto of deploying wheelbarrows across Mount Kenya to split votes and weaken regional unity.

United Opposition holds rally

Today, Gachagua and the United Opposition coalition held a rally in Kiritiri, Embu County. Gachagua, who is emerging as a central figure in the opposition, said he was confident of rallying Mount Kenya behind him to secure the coalition’s presidential ticket.

“Tumekubaliana jana tutatoa kiongozi mmoja wa kupigana na kasongo,” he said.

The event brought together leaders from multiple opposition parties, including Kalonzo Musyoka of Wiper, Martha Karua of People’s Liberation Party, Eugene Wamalwa of DAP-K, and Justin Muturi of the Democratic Party.

Karua urged voters to protect their votes.

“Hata mkiletewa pesa kiasi gani, ukitaka kula kura ni yenu. Lakini kura yako, chunga maisha yako na kura yako.”

Kalonzo also called on youth to register and vote.

“Wakati wa kujikomboa ni sasa. Lazima kila mtu awache maneno, sio kupiga kura as I said. Kura ya kawaida, Ni kura ya kujikomboa,” he noted.
