Meru MPs vow to support Ruto’s re-election bid

By , October 5, 2025

Some leaders from Meru County have affirmed their support for President William Ruto, vowing to rally behind his quest for a second term.

Led by Igembe Central MP Daniel Kiili, the lawmakers registered their respective support for the broad-based government while leading the clarion call for Ruto’s second term.

The MPs cited the various development projects achieved under the current regime and Ruto’s choice of Kindiki as the third Deputy President as a factor in their support.

Two terms

“We are not the type that gets carried away with wind. We are firmly behind your government. We told the one-term brigade to find another place for their politics, since here in Igembe we have two terms for the president,” Kiili affirmed.

“We have said we will align with a person who listens to our issues. The president has lent us a listening ear. For now, we say it is two terms for our president,” Buuri MP Mugambi Rindikiri stated.

“We are the ones who voted in this government, and we must remain in it. We cannot accept getting out of a government that we put into office,” his Igembe South counterpart, Julius Titumu, added.

“In 2027, people will come with their own false stories. For us, we want to help our president attain his two terms, and that is where we will be,” Tigania West MP John Mutunga said.

On his part, the South Imenti MP praised Ruto’s leadership as one anchored on the Bible. He vowed to stay put with the Kenyan Kwanza leaders.

“We, the people of South Imenti, are firmly behind two terms for Ruto and long-term for Kindiki,” he said.

Their remarks come as Ruto and his deputy graced the AIPCA church in Kathwela in Igembe Central.

Ruto’s visit comes days afterKindiki openly acknowledged that the President lacks sufficient support from the region.

Speaking in Meru on Friday, September 19, 2025, the DP, who hails from the neighbouring Tharaka Nithi County, vowed to rally the region behind the head of state.

“I cannot be a DP, and here in Meru, the President has no support. I will do everything possible to make sure he is respected and supported because we have seen what he has done and what he will do.” Kithure Kindiki said.

Other leaders from the region present at the event include Governor Isaac Mutuma, her deputy Linda Kiome, Water CS Eric Muuga, and Senate Deputy Speaker Kathure.
