McOure slams Gachagua over attempts to poach Babu Owino
Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) youth leader Kasmuel McOure has launched a sharp rebuke of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, accusing him of attempting to lure key party figures, including Nairobi Senator and ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, to his Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) or allied Wiper Party.
The rebuke comes hours after Gachagua publicly extended invitations to Sifuna and Babu Owino to join DCP, claiming that President William Ruto intended to remove them from ODM.
Speaking during a by-election victory celebration in Narok on December 3, 2025, Gachagua said, “I have heard that Ruto wants to kick out Sifuna when he buys the ODM party. I want to tell Sifuna, you’re a good leader; if Ruto kicks you out, you are welcome to DCP.”

On Babu Owino, he added, “Ruto has also threatened to chase Babu. He is also welcome to DCP. Come home; this is your home. DCP is a party for all Kenyan patriots, and great leaders like them will get space here. If they feel uncomfortable in DCP, they can also join Wiper.”
Defence of ODM leadership
In a detailed post on X dated December 3, McOure dismissed Gachagua’s overtures as misguided and politically motivated.
“We live in a curious age, where Rigathi Gachagua, an impeached state officer and a tribal bigot, has the misguided nerve to urge our Secretary General and Member for Embakasi East, an ODM-elected MP to abandon ODM and join his vengeful dictatorial party, or its recently acquired partner in a treacherous and most unholy alliance, Wiper,” he wrote.
McOure also defended ODM leaders, stating: “What is equally telling is his brazen attack on our National Chairperson, Gov. Gladys Wanga, and our Director of Campaigns, Hon. Junet Mohamed; despite the fact that our party leadership has done nothing to provoke it, nor have any of our leaders done anything but advance the cause of Chama Kubwa and stand in solidarity with our SG.”

Commitment to Broad-Based government
Describing the invitations as part of a “covert mission to undermine Dr Oburu Oginga’s leadership,” McOure reaffirmed ODM’s commitment to the broad-based government.
“Despite the ramblings of the Devil’s egg, the rabid, rancid tribal bigot and mad man from Mathira, the ODM remains committed firmly to the Broad-based government, both in word and in deed. We shall not leave, as other charlatans have tried to suggest, until our 10-point agenda is fulfilled.”
He concluded with a warning to political rivals: “Politics has a long memory, and as my senior Oguda often says, one day, the wind will blow…I didn’t think it’d be this soon. Liwe liwalo.”
