Political activist Kasmuel McOure has launched a scathing attack on Edwin Sifuna, accusing him of duplicitous conduct that threatens the Orange Democratic Movement’s commitment to the broad-based government arrangement with President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza administration.

In a detailed statement posted on X on November 30, 2025, McOure declared that his loyalty remains firmly with the ODM Party and its longstanding ideology, currently guided by Oburu Oginga as the custodian of that vision.

“My loyalty is to the ODM Party and to the enduring ideology that has sustained our movement for decades. Today, the custodian of that vision and the bearer of our ideological and operational compass is Dr Oburu Oginga,” he wrote.

Accusations of undermining party direction

McOure noted that “It is from this position of principle that I continue to call out our SG, whose conduct has grown increasingly duplicitous. Even more troubling is the laxity with which our party’s spokesperson approaches a role that demands precision, sobriety, and unwavering fidelity to the official party line.

McOure accused the Secretary-General of developing a pattern of behaviour that undermines the party’s official position.

“The SG has developed a worrying habit. He is quick to castigate those working to strengthen the broad-based arrangement and equally eager to undermine anyone who echoes Baba’s clear and public directive that we remain in the arrangement, hold the government accountable, and work collaboratively for the good of the nation,” the statement continued.

He further claimed that Sifuna associates with individuals working to sabotage the arrangement and has circulated unsubstantiated claims, including allegations that party leader Raila Odinga stated ODM would exit the deal in 2026.

McOure also criticised Sifuna for attending events where “Wantam” slogans, associated with anti-arrangement factions, are promoted, while allegedly neglecting official party campaigns.

“Our political direction comes from the Party Leader. The SG is a mouthpiece, not an alternative centre of power. Suppose he persists in contradicting the party leader or straying from the party’s ideological lane.”

“In that case, we are not short of experienced and disciplined men and women who can execute this mandate with dignity. If his true passion lies in the Wantam brigade, we must respect his democratic right to pursue it, but he cannot do so while holding an office that demands ideological consistency and institutional loyalty to the ODM,” McOure asserted, warning that continued contradiction of Raila Odinga’s directives could lead to Sifuna’s replacement by more disciplined cadres within the party.

Describing ODM as being at a critical transitional moment, McOure called for an end to “cheap theatrics, duplicity, or personal brand building” in leadership ranks. He urged the Secretary-General to either align fully with the party line or step aside.

He emphasised the need to refocus on implementing the ten-point agenda agreed under the Broad-Based Arrangement and urged members to prioritise policy delivery over slogans.
