Mbeere North MP hints at more govt appointments for Raila allies after AUC loss

By , February 17, 2025

Mbeere North Member of Parliament Geoffrey Ruku on Monday, February 17, 2025, predicted government realignments to accommodate more Raila Odinga allies.

Speaking on the K24 Morning Dawn show, Ruku argued that the re-organisation would be necessitated by the need to further unite the country through broad-based government.

The vocal legislature opined that the strongly worded remarks made by President William Ruto and Raila in Addis Ababa following the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship election loss signalled an extended working relationship.

To sustain the momentum, the MP made it clear that Ruto would be compelled to reshuffle and re-organise some government organs and give opportunities to Raila’s lieutenants.

Besides government jobs, Ruku also claimed that ODM members of parliament could benefit from the committees’ restructuring. He specially said that ODM could be given the Departmental Committee on Finance currently chaired by Molo MP Kuria Kimani.

Ruku further indicated that Raila still commands a huge following and his machinery is still intact and Ruto needed to consolidate all that for the country’s stability.

“We are going to see chairpersons of departmental committees in the national assembly in the spirit of broad-based government. For instance, I suspect the Departmental Committee on Finance will be headed by someone from ODM moving forward,” MP Geoffrey Ruku said during the K24 morning show.

“Not only that, we will be seeing further reorganisation of the government and executive and we will see Raila Odinga allied professionals getting into government.

“This is what we need, we need stability, and we need everyone to feel they are part of Kenya,” he insisted.

No expected rift

While expressing optimism about an extended alliance between ODM and Kenya Kwanza, Ruku ruled out the possibility of disintegration.

Rather, Ruku opined that the two were going to cement their pact and forge a better-united front that would help Ruto deliver to the citizens.

The MP who played a key role in endorsing Deputy President Kithure Kindiki to lead the Mt Kenya East region added that Ruto- Raila unity would define local politics.

“President Ruto and Raila will continue working together. We may see it as the end of Raila Odinga as if he is going to complicate things locally. I can assure this is a positive opportunity for Kenyan politics.
