Mbadi: We have reached a consensus to allow Gladys Wanga to serve a second term
By Mabonga Makhanu, March 22, 2026Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has announced that Homa Bay leaders have reached a consensus and have allowed County Governor Gladys Wanga to be re-elected for a second term.
While speaking during an interdenominational church service in Homa Bay on Sunday, March 22, 2026, the outspoken CS stated that nobody from the broad-based team will interfere with the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) chair, who will be seeking her second term in 2027.
“As leaders from this region, we are united. We do not want disruptions. We have decided that we will support the current leadership and allow our governor to serve a second term,” CS Mbadi announced.

The Treasury CS, who attempted to run for the seat in 2022 but was defeated by Wanga during the nominations, continued to state that Homa Bay leaders are united. He added that they will ensure there is peace in the governance structure of the county.
He further noted that leaders such as himself and Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo, who hails from Homa Bay County, will support the county in the running of its affairs.
“As the leadership of this region, we want peace, and we will ensure there is peace within our party, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), and in its governance structures. Even those of us at the national level, like Raymond Omollo and myself, must support the leadership of the county,” the CS made it clear.
Homa Bay gubernatorial race
The Homa Bay gubernatorial seat has continued to become lucrative, attracting more contenders. The latest to join the race is former Homa Bay Deputy Governor Oyugi Magwanga, who resigned after a fallout with his boss and declared his intention to challenge Wanga in 2027.

Former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero, who unsuccessfully contested for the same seat in 2022, has not yet declared whether he will return to Homa Bay or vie in Nairobi. However, he was recently spotted at State House during the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) aspirants’ forum dressed in party regalia.
This comes days after he was also seen with Oburu Odinga, the ODM party leader, at his office on Riverside Drive.

Mbadi has also announced that the Nyanza region must produce a presidential candidate after William Ruto exits office.
