Treasury Cabinet Secretary (CS) John Mbadi has affirmed the Orange Democratic Movement’s (ODM) position of working in tandem with the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) within the broad-based government.

Speaking during the burial of Phoebe Asiyo on Friday, August 8, 2025, in Homa Bay County, Mbadi dismissed the divergent voices that have recently emanated from a section of party members and officials, terming them as people speaking their own opinions.

He asserted that such sentiments are not a reflection of the party’s position under the leadership of Raila Odinga.

Mbadi has further stated that only Raila Odinga can give the community the direction to follow.

“As the Luo community, we have one king, Raila, and he is the one who will give direction on where we will go as a community. Now that he has said we are working with UDA, we will work with UDA. We are united as ODM and anyone saying other statements is not speaking on behalf of ODM nor the Luo community. He is speaking on his own volition,” he stated.

The former nominated MP further urged the gathering to rally behind the party’s adopted stance.

“I urge you to join hands with us in that accord, and let us go forward,” he added.

His sentiments come after the ODM party, through its Central Committee on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, agreed to continue its partnership with the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

In a statement, ODM affirmed its commitment to working with the Kenya Kwanza administration to stabilise the country and create an enabling environment for Kenyans to address their concerns through democratic and constitutional means.

ODM supports UDA

“The Central Committee of the Orange Democratic Movement met today, under the leadership of Party Leader Rt Hon Raila Odinga, to review the state of the nation, current developments in the party, and, in particular, the MOU with UDA and support for the Broad-Based Government,” read part of the statement by ODM.

Likewise, the committee, while reviewing the state of the nation, further acknowledged the party’s collaborative decision to have party leader Raila work closely with the Kenya Kwanza Government, with emphasis on stabilising the country.

“That the party supports the position of Party Leader Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga to work with the Kenya Kwanza administration to stabilise the country and create an enabling environment for Kenyans to address their concerns through democratic and constitutional means,” stated the committee.
