Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has stepped up his pitch for the 2027 race, presenting Jubilee as the most experienced party to fix Kenya’s challenges. His message comes as the party, under renewed push from former President Uhuru Kenyatta, tries to rebuild its influence after years out of power.

On Sunday, May 3, 2026, Matiang’i used his X account to argue that Jubilee’s record in government sets it apart from other parties. He wrote that the party has already proven itself in leadership and delivery.

“Among all political parties, Jubilee stands out for its experience. We have led before, delivered results, and transformed lives, and that is the track record we are ready to build on,” he said.

He added that this experience gives the party direction going into the next election.

“That experience gives us the clarity and discipline to get Kenya back on course, fixing what has stalled, restoring trust in leadership, and delivering real, measurable progress for every Kenyan.”

The message reflects Jubilee’s wider strategy of leaning on its past time in government, where it delivered major national programmes such as free primary education and the Linda Mama health cover.

Matiang’i’s remarks also follow a strong endorsement from Uhuru Kenyatta. Speaking recently by phone to a Jubilee gathering, Uhuru backed Matiang’i as the party’s preferred flagbearer and praised his record in public service.

“I know Dr Matiang’i is a person of few words in politics, but when it comes to work, there is no one else like him,” Uhuru said.

He went further, telling supporters that he now supports Matiang’i’s leadership bid.

Uhuru defends political role

Uhuru also defended his continued involvement in politics, rejecting calls for him to step back completely after leaving office. “I have a right to defend my party,” he said, adding that retired leaders across the world still play active political roles.

The fourth president’s remarks have strengthened signals that Jubilee is rallying behind Matiang’i ahead of 2027. Party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni has also been praised by Uhuru for defending the party’s position during internal disputes.

Matiang’i has meanwhile been sharpening his campaign message on governance and accountability. At a recent meeting in Narok, he raised concerns about land issues and corruption, promising action if elected.

“The time has come… Narok is one of those reasons,” he said, accusing unnamed officials of taking land and resources from residents.

He said a Jubilee government under his leadership would review questionable deals and prioritise citizens’ interests.

“We are ready to form a government that looks out for the interests of the citizens, one that is responsible,” he said.

He also reminded supporters of Jubilee’s past policies, including education and health reforms.

“Through our president, we were the ones who brought the Linda Mama program, free primary education, and free day secondary education,” he said.

Matiang’i has urged party supporters to return to grassroots mobilisation, stressing that elections are decided on the ground, not in speeches.

“This is a game of numbers… let us now return to the ground to speak with Kenyan citizens,” he said.
