Former Chief Justice and presidential candidate David Maraga has commended the Niko Kadi Challenge, a youth-led movement aimed at pulling young people to register as voters.

Taking to his official X account on Monday, March 23, 2026, he went on explaining how electrol justice is not just a slogan, but a constitutional obligation.

“Electoral justice is not a slogan; it is a constitutional obligation. Having personally visited 22 counties in the past 6 weeks, I conveyed my firsthand observations on voter registration. The youth driving the #TukoKadi campaign deserve commendation,” Maraga said.

At the same time, Maraga called for IEBC to deploy more clerks ahead of the March 30th Mass Registration exercise.

“But IEBC must urgently deploy more clerks ahead of the March 30th Mass Registration exercise. The Diaspora are Kenya’s leading foreign exchange earners and a lifeline for countless families,” he added.

In addition, Maraga has called for more action to ensure Kenyans in Diaspora can participate in the general elections.

“To exclude them from the electoral process is indefensible. That must change. Transparency is not optional. Opacity breeds mistrust, misinformation and disinformation. The IEBC must engage openly on key operational matters,” Maraga added.

Tuko Kadi challenge

On the other hand, President William Ruto has hopped into the Niko Kadi challenge, declaring readiness ahead of the highly anticipated 2027 general election as he joins the Niko Kadi campaign.

Ruto made his remarks on Saturday, March 21, 2026, during his four-day development tour in the Nyanza region.

At the time, the president, while declaring his readiness, embraced the civic mobilisation efforts intensifying across the country, adding that he is waiting for the elections.

Na mimi nataka kuwaambia tuko tayari na tuko kadi kama manataka hiyo tuko kadi tayari. We are ready for you when the time comes,” Ruto stated.

Ademba speaks on Niko Kadi challenge

Meanwhile, the Kenyan Journalist Ademba Allans, has rebuked President William Ruto for trying to jump into the Niko Kadi wave, terming it theft of intellectual property.

While speaking during an interview with a local media station on Sunday, March 22, 2026, Allans expressed his disappointment that the head of state could attempt to join a wave primarily meant to get him out of office.

According to Allan and his co-activist Sophie Njehia, who is also advocating for youth voter registration, the Niko Kadi initiative is equivalent to the “Ruto Must Go” movement.

“It was intellectual theft when our president came and said, ‘Niko Kadi’. Bro, uko kadi ya nini? We are here to get you out.”

Allans continued to state that other politicians have also tried to jump into the Niko Kadi wave by attempting to sponsor them, saying he has received many phone calls from politicians wanting to contribute to the movement, with some even offering to donate trucks to facilitate their advocacy.
