Maraga prepares for duel with ODM as he campaigns for UGM’s Ugunja candidate

United Green Movement (UGM) presidential candidate David Maraga has taken his campaigns to Siaya County as the region braces for the upcoming November by-elections in Ugunja constituency

In a video posted on his X page on Monday, October 6, 2025, the retired Chief Justice hit the grassroots to interact with residents while campaigning for his newly launched United Green Movement’s candidate in the upcoming parliamentary contest, Benson Obol Otieno.

The presidential hopeful noted with pleasure the enthusiastic reception of the party’s candidate, terming it a sign of the nation’s readiness for change.

“Great to see the enthusiastic reception of our @UGMParty candidate for the Ugunja parliamentary seat, Dr. Benson Obal Otieno. Kenya is ready for a reset! Erokamano,” he said.

The development comes four days after the party officially welcomed the former Chief Justice as its presidential flagbearer.

During the green-themed event, Maraga was handed a green hoodie as one of the party’s merchandise items and a green flag to take the party to the next step.

In a separate statement, UGM expressed its commitment to ushering in new visionary leaders.

The party asserted that it was hopeful of bagging the upcoming parliamentary contest.

“We joined UGM Party Parliamentary Candidate Dr. Benson Obol as he launched his campaign ahead of the November by-elections in Ugunja, Siaya County. The Greens will always field visionary candidates who have the people at heart. We look forward to bringing this home!

Among those who have already entered the race to succeed Energy CS Opiyo Wandayi are Moses Omondi, who won the ODM primaries held on September 26, 2025.

Others are Fredrick Odhiambo Ochiel of the United Democratic Movement, Chris Budo of the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K), Busineman Joseph Alur and Sam Okoyo,
