Malala questions Ruto’s mental fitness, calls for transparency
Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) deputy party leader Cleophas Malalah has questioned the mental capacity of President William Ruto, citing what he described as inconsistent behaviour and a lack of sound judgement.
Speaking on Thursday, March 19, 2026, during an interview with a local radio station, Malala said, the health of the president is a matter of national interest.
He said that the current behaviour of Ruto should be a major issue to be watched, adding that his current insults to opposition leaders are not in the correct state to lead the country.

“Look at the way he is behaving, we have seen a number of presidents across the world, but we have never seen a president behaving like William Ruto,” Malala said.
Poor mental health
Malala added that the nation cannot afford leadership that is compromised by poor mental or physical health, emphasising the need for transparency on the president’s condition.
“We are demanding to know the state of his mental ability to run this country. We cannot have a president who is yapping; the president is not in the correct state to lead this country. It is our constitutional right to know the well-being of the president,” Malala said.
Malala cited that the opposition team is contemplating moving a motion at the parliament to have a professional body examine the health of the president.
He warned that if the President is not in the correct state of mind, the consequences for the nation could be dire.

“We are contemplating moving a motion in parliament to have a professional body examine the health of the president,” Malala noted.
President Ruto vs Gachagua drama
Ruto, while speaking in Cheptais, Mt Elgon, on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, has hit back at former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua over recent remarks about his weight loss.
He urged his former deputy to focus on fitness, quipping that Gachagua’s ‘big belly’ could be behind his struggles to stay awake during official meetings.

“Kwanza nawaambia baadhi yenu mwende gym; acheni kula chakula kingi. Matumbo yamejaa hadi vichwa vinakaribia kupasuka. Mnalala kwenye mikutano hata mchana,” Ruto said.
Gachagua on Ruto’s lost weight
He teased that the United Opposition had managed to get into the President’s psyche with the constant criticism of the Kenya Kwanza administration. Gachagua said that the opposition has managed to get into the president’s psyche with the constant criticism of the Kenya Kwanza administration.
“The good thing is that even with all that money, he does not sleep. You can even see how much weight he has lost. He has billions but cannot get rest,” Gachagua noted.
