Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has termed the recent allocation of a train to Ol Kalou residents amid the intensified by-election campaigns as part of the ‘goodies’ being splashed in the area, dismissing it as fake.

Speaking at his Wamunyoro residence on Friday, July 10, 2026, the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader, who has been rubbishing the government’s efforts in Ol Kalou to woo residents into voting for its candidate by splashing goodies, urged locals not to board the train, terming it a disaster in the making.

Gachagua, in his usual political gimmicks and banter, something that has endeared him to his supporters, went on to claim that the train had knocked down a few vehicles in the area because there were no signs, adding that the Ol Kalou railway line had been dysfunctional for the past 45 years and residents were not used to it.

“They brought a fake train to Ol Kalou after 45 years of absence, and it knocked a few vehicles because there are no signs. I am asking the people of Ol Kalou to avoid that train. It is a disaster in the making.”

Fishing boats in Ol Kalou

This also comes days after Ol Kalou residents received three fishing boats, together with fingerlings which former Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria claimed would help address unemployment in the area.

“Our commitment is simple: create opportunities and reduce idleness amongst our youths. When young people are equipped with the right tools, they can build businesses and create jobs which will support their families,” Kuria stated.

“Some have chosen to joke that we were delivering a speedboat, but they have missed the point. The real message is that we are speeding up development and delivering solutions that our people have waited for for years,” Kuria said.

UDA candidate praised

The former CS also praised Ol Kalou MP UDA aspirant Samuel Muchina, saying he had worked closely with the national government to secure development projects for the constituency.

He urged residents and visitors to attend the annual Lake Olobolosat Cultural Festival, which will take place from July 10 to 13, 2026, at the Ol Kalou TVC Grounds in Rurii Ward.

“Samuel Muchina has demonstrated that he understands how to work with the national government to bring meaningful development that transforms lives.”
