Makueni Senator Dan Maanzo has strongly refuted any possibilities of a political pact between Wiper Democratic Movement (WDM) leader Kalonzo Musyoka and President William Ruto in the foreseeable future.

Speaking during a live TV interview on Thursday, March 13, 2025, Maanzo dismissed reports of the two leaders meeting recently after a video surfaced online showing Kalonzo at the State House buildings on Wednesday, March 12, 2025.

Maanzo maintains that the former VP is staying put as the People’s Loyal Opposition leader and will not join the ruling administration.

“There were calls from Eldoret for Kalonzo to join Ruto; even yesterday the government paid bloggers to say Kalonzo has gone to the State House. The picture was one from the NADCO report and honourable Kalonzo will never join Ruto at any one point. Kenyans must remain used to that. We remain the People’s Loyal Opposition and the people of Kenya have declared they are in the opposition,” Maanzo clarified.

Working with Gachagua

Commenting on Wiper’s new-found camaraderie with former Deputy President Rigathi, the lawyer contended that the party has since embraced the impeached former Deputy President after he explained and absolved himself from the blame allegations he faced.

Wiper was among the parties in support of the motion to hound Gachagua out of office at the height of his impeachment case in 2024.

‘We are working with Gachagua because he believes in an ideal and a fair country. He is organizing himself to have a political party, he is not an empty shell politically and commands followers of many people in the country; he is also a former deputy president and was the reason why Ruto became president,” he added.

Kalonzo deny meeting Ruto

The foregoing comes after Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka on Wednesday, March 12 came out to firmly deny claims that he met with President William Ruto.

Kalonzo took to his social media to quell the rumour prompted by a viral video circulated on social media which showed an interaction between him and Ruto.

“Why are they so panicky? The People’s Loyal Coalition will never be a party to the biggest betrayal of Kenyans for political expediency and temporary comfort,” Kalonzo stated.

Kalonzo further clarified that the viral clip was shot on March 9, 2024, during the presentation of the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) report at State House.

The video, which was widely shared, showed Kalonzo and Ruto interactiing at the State House.

He further termed the rumour as a desperate attempt to tarnish his image and sow division within his political pact with Martha Karua, Eugene Wamalwa and Rigathi Gachagua.
