The United Opposition politician Mithika Linturi has doubled down on his prediction that President William Ruto’s tenure will not be extended to a second term.

Speaking in Embu on Saturday, November 29, 2025, the politician asserted that the wins will not spare Ruto the destiny of being a one-term president.

Linturi lauded the performance of the united opposition in the by-elections, adding that the coalition has a lot to be proud of despite the defeat.

“My brothers, do not lose hope; we will leave Mbeere with heads held high. The people who were here as part of our teams have told us we had a few traitors here and there,” he told his colleagues in the United Opposition.

“Come 2027, we know whatever we saw will not be repeated here as no one will have such kind of machinery, power and money, and I tell you, Ruto will be one-term president,” he said

On the coalition’s consensus candidate’s defeat to UDA’s Leonard Wa Muthende, Linturi attributed the loss to the existence of some traitors within the team, whom he kept under wraps.

Traitors

“We know there were one or two traitors here, but the Embu people did not betray us,” he added.

Speaking during the burial of Lenny Kivuti’s mother in Embu on Saturday, November 29, 2025, the former Agriculture CS stated that the amount could have sufficed the campaign for 60 members of parliament

His remarks come after he sensationally claimed that the government spent monumental sums in the regions of Ksh600 million in the sole parliamentary by-elections in Mbeere North.

“Kuja kupigana kutafuta kiti ya mbunge. 600 million has been spent kutafuta kiti ya MP. In normal circumstances, sababu nimeomba kura, we spend around 10 million. Kutafuta kiti ya whole constituency. 600 million means 60 members of parliament. Ile pesa imetumika hapa Mbeere North.”

Linturi’s remarks come after Devolution Empowerment Party Secretary General Mugambi Imanyara also decried the widespread incidences of voter manipulation during the recently concluded by-elections in the constituency.

“I was here myself and saw what happened. I know we won. I was in charge of a polling station where fewer than 100 votes were cast, but in the end over 350 votes were cast for a candidate that you all know,” he stated.
