The Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna-led Linda Mwananchi team will be holding a political rally in Nakuru town on Sunday, April 19, 2026.

This announcement was made by Joshua Ayika, an aide to Siaya Governor James Orengo, who is an integral member of the Linda Mwananchi team—a movement primarily made up of rebels from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

This comes at a time when the Linda Mwananchi movement is slowly gaining momentum, exciting the masses. This has seen them attract crowds in different locations.

Their maiden rally was in Busia, followed by Kitengela and then Kakamega. After this, they took a brief hiatus before resuming political activities with a rally in Narok town. A week later, they went to the coast at Tononoka Grounds on March 29, 2026, where they continued to draw huge crowds.

Linda Mwananchi broke from the ODM party after the Orange party, which has been in existence for over two decades, saw its leaders divided on which direction the party should take in preparation for the 2027 election. This led to two factions: one led by the party leader Oburu Odinga, dubbed ODM Linda Ground, and the other led by Edwin Sifuna, all aiming to outdo each other.

The rift between these two factions culminated during the Special Delegates Conference (SDC) carried out by the Oburu Odinga side at Jamhuri Grounds, where the Sifuna team opposed it and set up a parallel NDC, which they dubbed People’s NDC at Ufangamano House.

This saw the Linda Ground movement purge the Sifuna team from several party leadership organs. The first person to face the axe was Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi, who was removed from the powerful deputy party leader position.

This also comes at a time when Sifuna’s secretary general ouster case was thrown out by the Political Parties Dispute Tribunal (PPDT), which sent Edwin Sifuna back to the party, stating that it does not have the mandate to hear the case and urging him to exhaust internal party dispute resolution mechanisms before seeking their intervention.

Suba South MP Carol Omondi has predicted a major split in the ODM party, saying that it will lead to two factions: one that will stick with the party documents and the other that will walk away with their supporters.

Orengo’s take on linda mwananchi

James Orengo, who is also opposed to the Oburu-led team, expressed confidence in his faction, stating that it is like a tsunami and that anybody who stands in its way risks being swept away by the movement.

“This thing is huge; it’s a tsunami and unstoppable. No force on earth is going to stand in our way, so rest assured that this meeting is going to take place,” Orengo stated.

He faulted Oburu’s leadership, saying that he is being misled by some people around him and does not seem to have the experience required to steer the Orange party.

Orengo added that this is because Oburu was never in the frontline whenever his father, the late Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, and his late brother, Raila Odinga, were fighting for democracy.
