Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has vowed that rallies organised under the Linda Mwananchi movement will continue despite police use of crowd-control measures, declaring that attempts to disperse the meetings will not succeed.

Speaking during an interview with K24 TV on Monday, March 2, 2026, Sifuna said organisers had resolved to keep holding the meetings even after several of their events were disrupted by security operations involving tear gas.

Tumeamua kwamba mikutano yetu lazima itaendelea. Haitawezekana tena kutibua mikutano ya Linda Mwananchi kutumia teargas anymore,” he said.

The vocal senator noted that some of the rallies had been violently interrupted, accusing security forces of using excessive force to disperse supporters.

Sifuna links the attacks to government

He claimed that some youths associated with the government were injured during confrontations and that others were caught carrying handcuffs and teargas cannisters during the Linda Mwananchi Kakamega rally.

Sifuna further stated that individuals involved in the incidents were later taken to the hospital, but he claimed investigations into the matter had not been adequately pursued.

Wale vijana ambao walishikwa… walipigwa mpaka sasa wako hospitalini lakini hakuna ambaye amehojiwa na vyombo vya usalama ijulikane walikuwa wametumwa na nani,” he said.

Intimidation tactics

In a colourful expression of defiance, Sifuna dismissed claims that intimidation tactics would force the movement to abandon its rallies.

He claimed that even if the government brought bees to his rallies, they would not end the meetings prematurely.

Watafute njia nyingine… mfano nimewapea nyuki. Wachukue nyuki kule Kitui wajaribu kuona kama tutatoroka. Hatutatoroka,” he said, using the statement metaphorically to emphasise resilience.

He insisted that neither tear gas nor other disruption tactics would stop the meetings, adding that his supporters were determined to continue gathering.

The remarks follow reports of chaos during some Linda Mwananchi gatherings, including one in Kitengela Town, where one person was reported dead during clashes.

Sifuna and his allies have previously blamed security agencies for excessive use of force during political meetings, a claim that authorities have not publicly confirmed.

Interior authorities have maintained that public rallies must follow legal notification procedures and that security deployments are meant to preserve public order.
