Ledama Olekina: I have what it takes to replace Sifuna as ODM SG
Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina has come out to state that he is highly interested in the position of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General.
While speaking during an interview with Herman Manyora on his podcast aired on Sunday, April 5, 2026, the outspoken senator said he has what it takes to be the ODM SG because he has given his all to the party.
He went on to dismiss speculations that he was being proposed to take over the SG position should Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, who was recently ousted, fail to retain the seat. He clarified that he has not been proposed but is personally interested in the position.
He also confided that during the special Orange Democratic Movement delegates conference recently held at Jamhuri Grounds, there was intense lobbying by top party members for the seat.

“I am not being proposed for the SG slot, but am I interested in the position? Absolutely, because the position that I know I can serve well in the ODM party is the SG slot because I have given all to the party,” he said.
Sifuna’s ODM woes
This comes days after the embattled Nairobi senator’s case seeking to remove him from the lucrative SG position was referred back to the party. Sifuna was recently served with a show-cause letter by the party’s chairperson, Gladys Wanga, to explain why he has not been towing the party line.
This has seen Sifuna set up a battery of three senior counsels who will defend him before the party’s IDRM, as directed by the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal (PPDT). After being served with the show-cause letter, he was given a total of four days, expiring on April 8, 2026, to respond in writing, as disciplinary measures against him gather momentum.
Sifuna’s SG purge

Following his removal, Sifuna was replaced by Busia Woman Representative Catherine Omanyo, who had been the Deputy Secretary General, to now serve as the acting SG until a substantive holder of the role is elected or chosen by the party’s National Executive Council (NEC).
Omanyo, while speaking after taking up the role, has repeatedly stated that it was difficult serving in the shadow of Sifuna. She noted that in many instances she felt idle, as Sifuna did not delegate duties and often acted like a “know-it-all.”
This also comes at a time when the ODM party appears to be staring at an imminent split, with cracks already emerging and two factions forming. One faction, led by Sifuna and dubbed “Linda Mwananchi,” has been gaining significant traction across the country, while the other, dubbed “Linda Ground”, is associated with the party leadership under Oburu Odinga.
According to Suba South MP Caroli Omondi, there is likely to be a major split, with the two factions remaining as they are—one retaining the official party documents, while the other aligns with supporters who believe in the ideals of ODM.
