Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo has responded to reports that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) is falling apart.

In a statement shared on her social media pages on Wednesday, February 25, 2025, the outspoken legislator issued a sharp and cryptic message, following an analysis by the People Daily that pointed out the cracks in the Orange party.

Her remarks come at a time when the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) appears fragmented following the demise of its long-serving party leader, Raila Odinga, who had been at the helm of the party for two decades since its inception in 2005.

The party has now been reduced to two factions. One faction is led by the current party leader, Oburu Odinga, under the banner “Linda Ground Movement”, which supports the broad-based government and wants President William Ruto to be re-elected in 2027.

The other faction is led by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, under the “Linda Mwananchi” banner, which became more pronounced after an attempted ouster of Sifuna from his position as secretary general. The party sought to replace him with Busia Woman Representative Catherine Omanyo.

The Sifuna-led faction is strongly opposed to the party’s move to support Ruto in the 2027 General Election, as well as theproposed pact by the party’s central management committee, which tasked Oburu Odinga with leading ODM in pre-coalition talks with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

Members of this faction argue that ODM should field its own presidential candidate rather than enter into talks with UDA.

Siaya Governor James Orengo, who is aligned with the Sifuna-led team, has expressed disappointment that the party appears unwilling to field a presidential candidate and is instead leaning toward supporting UDA.

He insisted that the Orange party has the capacity to front a presidential candidate to face President William Ruto.

The Sifuna-led team have also accused their rival faction of attempting to auction the party to President William Ruto.

They claim this is the reason they have decided to speak out and shield the party from being handed over to the state.

This also comes a day after Millie Odhiambo expressed her willingness to join the Sifuna-led team, stating that her heart beats for the opposition.

She said she admires the stance taken by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, noting that she is tempted to join the faction.

Both factions have been holding rallies across the country, each aiming to outdo the other and consolidate support. However, Oburu Odinga has maintained that the party will proceed with the talks, with or without the approval of the Sifuna-led team.
