A close ally of President William Ruto yesterday urged him to heed the calls of many Kenyans and formulate immediate mitigation measures to tame the high cost of living.

Kiambu Woman Rep Ann Wamuratha who spoke in Nakuru said that the President should address the genuine concerns raised by Kenyans urgently.

 “It is not in doubt that the cost of living is very high. Many Kenyans are hopeless about a better tomorrow. It is our plea to the President to put on hold some of the issues that are pressing hard on Kenyans,” said Wamuratha.

The legislator said that the frustrations Kenyans were going through are a reflection of the government’s struggle with its external debts which are holding the country from effectively dealing with its internal problems.

“We are in a painful phase but with the strategies deployed by the government, there is hope for a better Kenya. The government has been branded as one that thrives on promises, but when we are out of this, Kenyans shall appreciate,” said Wamuratha.

She underscored on the need for unity among leaders during the difficult season saying that only this way the country would rise up and cushion Kenyans from extreme suffering.

Resource allocation

“We all have a duty at a personal level to ensure the little resources allocated to us are prudently used to make the lives of Kenyans better. This is not the time to look at which political camp one supports,” she said.

Wamuratha cited wars among leaders in various counties as a major challenge to development noting that if counties fail to deliver, the suffering will be felt even more.

“Kiambu and Meru counties have experienced wars at the county level. This is unbecoming behaviour that takes away time, resources and energy that would have been beneficially used for the electorates,” said Wamuratha.

Nakuru ACK Bishop Joseph Muchai underscored the need for harmony among leaders saying that personal interests should not override the interests of the masses.
