Political commentator and advocate Ndegwa Njiru has launched a scathing attack on President William Ruto over the ongoing scandal surrounding the Social Health Authority (SHA) fund, describing the head of state as a “fox guarding the henhouse.”

In a post on his X account on Thursday, August 28, 2025, Njiru questioned the credibility of Ruto’s promise to bring the alleged perpetrators to justice, arguing that the accused are part of the President’s own administration.

“Fellow Kenyans, have you heard the latest? Ruto, the self-proclaimed champion of integrity, is barking from State House, swearing that his band of SHA thieves will be brought to justice,” Njiru wrote.

Njiru ridiculed the notion that the President could effectively hold his own officials accountable, warning that Kenyans should not fall for what he called theatrics.

“Only the naïve would buy into this farce, Kasongo. How can you arrest the very thieves who are part of your own administration? It’s like a fox promising to guard the henhouse!” he said.

Theatrics and promises

According to Njiru, the public should expect little more than media theatrics and empty assurances while the alleged looting continues behind closed doors.

“The only thing we can expect is more theatrics and empty promises while the real heist continues behind closed doors,” he added, emphasising his scepticism over the administration’s commitment to transparency.

He further warned that the public is being misled by superficial actions and statements aimed at creating the appearance of accountability.

“So, let’s not be fooled by the smoke and mirrors. The only thing Ruto is good at is barking loudly while the rest of us are left to pick up the pieces of his administration’s mess,” Njiru said.

Public reaction

Njiru’s post comes amid growing scrutiny of the SHA fund, which has sparked widespread outrage over alleged mismanagement and misuse of public resources. Analysts say such high-profile criticism from political commentators could intensify calls for independent investigations and greater accountability from the executive.

By likening the President to a fox guarding the henhouse, Njiru has cast doubt on Ruto’s ability to address corruption within his administration, framing the SHA scandal as a test of both leadership and institutional integrity. His remarks are likely to fuel ongoing debate on social media and among political circles about whether the government can genuinely deliver justice or is merely engaging in performative accountability.

With the SHA theft saga still unfolding, Njiru’s commentary adds a sharp and provocative voice to the national conversation, reflecting public frustration and deepening scepticism about the administration’s handling of corruption allegations.
