Addressing the press on Thursday, September 23 in Nairobi, the leaders from Kisii, Nyamira and the diaspora said they were aware of the magnitude of interest which comes with regime change.
“We strongly believe in keeping our people and their issues at the heart of the national discourse such as the current political wind,” the leaders said before appreciating President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration for appointing members of the Gusii community to state positions.
“We hope that the 2022 permutations and combinings will secure our community’s interest. We wish to remind all and sundry that the Gusii community will not be passengers in the Kenyan political dispensation,” the leaders said.
Moving forth, the MPs said their intention is to be stakeholders and not supporters when it comes to the 2022 Uhuru succession detailing their plans in ensuring the same happens.
“It is in this regard that our community will be reviewing all the available options that include, but not limited to establishing a fully fledged national party,” the leaders said.
Also in their plan to secure a seat at the national political table is to deliberate on whether it will support a national party for the presidency or whether it will align itself with another national party.
“We promise to remain loyal to our community and the national interest,” the leaders said adding that deliberations are ongoing before the region arrives at a consensus on its course of action ahead of next year’s polls.
“We wish to declare that this time around, we won’t be spectators but participants. We won’t be subs in the team but must be on the pitch. We won’t be led to sing, we will conduct our song too,” the leaders said.
The leaders present at the press conference were Dagoreti’s Simba Arati, Richard Onyonka, Silvanus Osoro, Zadoc Ogutu, Jimmy Angwenyi and ten others.
