Jubilee Party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni has questioned the credibility of the newly formed United Opposition, claiming that some of its officials have no political party affiliation.

Speaking at a local TV station on Monday, September 29, 2025, Kioni said his party had never received any formal communication from the organisation, despite its attempts to present itself as a coalition bringing together various political formations.

“I have never seen any written document from that organisation to my party. There are individuals who are moving around in that group and are not officials of any party. So there is a lot of tidying that needs to be done there so that we don’t hoodwink Kenyans,” he said.

Kioni further criticised what he termed premature talk of fielding a joint presidential candidate, noting that some parties within the grouping had limited reach.

“You cannot campaign within two constituencies or two counties and then tell us to come to a table to choose a presidential candidate. Let each of the parties campaign countrywide. As we are doing that, that coalition will only be as strong as the political parties that join it,” he added.

“We are just leaving the courts. Like, they talked about the by-elections, and they said we have agreed to do this and that. We in Jubilee did not even have the national elections board, which is the requirement of the law,” he added.

Babu Owino endorses Kalonzo

This comes hours after Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has endorsed Wiper Patriotic Front (WPF) leader Kalonzo Musyoka for the 2027 Presidential elections.

Speaking on Monday, September 29, 2025, Babu stated that Kalonzo has firmly steadied the opposition movement and is the best bet to send President William Ruto home in the coming polls.

The ODM MP, who is among those who have rebelled from his party’s resolution to support the Broad-based government, said the next election will be a protest vote against UDA.

He likened the political climate in the country to that of the USA in 2020 when angry voters turned out to vote out President Donald Trump, or Kenya’s 2002 moment where the opposition united to defeat the then ruling Kanu party.

“In 2020, people turned out in the USA when Trump was serving his first term; they didn’t go to vote in Joe Biden, they went to vote out Trump. In 2002 in Kenya, people went to vote out Daniel Moi; they did not go to vote in Mwai Kibaki,” he said.

“In 2027, Kalonzo ametosha hajatosha? Kama alikuwa Azimio, Kalonzo alikuwa mzuri. Saa hizi kama ako opposition sasa Kalonzo ni mbaya? Kalonzo amekosa nini so far? Ati tukisema Kalonzo tosha ati Babu ni mbaya, mbaya what?” he posed.
