Jubilee Deputy Party Leader Jeremiah Kioni has appealed to Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka to intervene and help save the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) from its current internal crisis.

Speaking during an interview with a local media station on Tuesday January 27, 2026, the outspoken former MP said that since ODM is part of the Azimio la Umoja coalition, parties within the Azimio fraternity under the leadership of Kalonzo Musyoka have a responsibility to step in and rescue their ally, which is currently grappling with deep internal divisions and factionalism as a way of honouring the late Raila Odinga.

“ODM is still in Azimio, the only legally registered coalition that we are all members of. What should happen in the coming days is that Kalonzo—if he doesn’t, then somebody must should call the remaining Azimio leaders so that we can sit down and talk about how to rescue the ODM party,” Kioni said.

He added that beyond Kalonzo’s role as a senior Azimio leader, he personally, as a Jubilee official, would not stand by and watch ODM collapse. Kioni noted that the late Raila Odinga, who led ODM for over two decades since its formation in 2005, stood in solidarity with Jubilee during its internal wrangles in 2023, even visiting his office to encourage him to stay strong and preserve the party.

Standing in solidarity with ODM

Kioni said this solidarity created a moral obligation for Jubilee to now reciprocate and stand with ODM in its moment of crisis.

He went on to declare his support for the ODM “rebel” faction led by Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, Siaya Governor James Orengo, EALA MP Winnie Odinga, Godfrey Osotsi, and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, stating that he would accompany them in their next rally as a show of solidarity and gratitude for Raila Odinga’s support to Jubilee in the past.

“Raila Odinga was very instrumental in rescuing Jubilee. He came to my office not once, not twice, to encourage me to fight. As Jubilee, we owe him that same support. I am ready to join the Sifunas, the Babus, the Orengos, and Winnie as a way of standing in solidarity with ODM and thanking Raila for helping us out of that mess,” Kioni said.

ODM’s historic role

He further noted that ODM has played a historic and critical role in Kenya’s democratic journey, including the fight for human rights, freedom of association, and the current constitutional order, arguing that the party deserves collective protection even after Raila Odinga’s exit from active leadership following his death.

“ODM has played a crucial role in the struggle for democracy, the fight for freedom of association, and even in the making of our Constitution. It is a party that must be defended and protected—even with Baba no longer at the helm,” he added.
