Kindiki forced to explain Emurua Dikkir voting patterns after DCP strong showing
Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has been compelled to address emerging voting patterns in Emurua Dikirr Constituency following a closely watched parliamentary by-election in which the ruling coalition’s candidate emerged victorious but faced a strong challenge from the opposition.
The contest saw United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate David Kipsang Keter declared the winner after securing 18,266 votes, beating Democratic Congress Party (DCP) candidate Vincent Kibet Rotich, who garnered 10,760 votes.
Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Returning Officer Caleb Gekonde officially announced the results, confirming Keter as the Member of National Assembly-elect for Emurua Dikirr following the May 14 by-election.
Taking to his official X account on Friday, May 15, 2026, hours after the IEBC announced the results, Kindiki reignited discussion around the constituency’s long-standing electoral behaviour.
While defending the by-election outcome, Kindiki noted that Emurua Dikirr has maintained a consistent voting trend since its creation in 2013.
According to him, the constituency has often produced closely contested races, with strong opposition performances even where the ruling party ultimately prevails.
“Voting patterns for Emurua Dikkir have been the same since the creation of the Constituency in 2013, always the runner up in the election making a strong showing,” Kindiki stated.

Call for peaceful politics
Kindiki also welcomed the generally calm atmosphere during the by-election, praising voters for avoiding violence and political incitement.
“Thank you, Emurua Dikkir for refusing incitement, choosing to transact your differences of political opinion peacefully,” he added.

High-stakes political contest
The by-election was widely viewed as a test of strength between UDA and opposition formations in Narok County, with both sides deploying intensive campaigns ahead of the vote.
While UDA ultimately won the seat, the significant vote share secured by DCP has been interpreted as evidence of a competitive political landscape in the region.
National Vision Party (NVP) candidate Gideon Koech came third with 190 votes, while Cherono Desma of the Party of National Unity (PNU) secured 80 votes. Reform Liberation Party (RLP) candidate Kiprono Rotich trailed with 62 votes.
According to IEBC, 29,538 votes were cast out of 44,353 registered voters, translating to a voter turnout of 66.6 per cent.
“Caleb Gekonde, the @Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission(IEBC) Returning Officer for Member of National Assembly for Emurua Dikirr Constituency in Narok County, declared David Kipsang Keter of UDA Party the winner after getting 18,266 votes. Vincent Kibet Rotich of DCP Party finished second with 10,760 votes.
