Kibagendi claims Murkomen ordered police to shoot to intimidate opposition
By Ndiritu Wanjiru, February 17, 2026Kitutu Chache South Member of Parliament Anthony Kibagendi has fingered the Interior Cabinet Secretary over the incident in Kitengela on Sunday, February,15,2026 where police fired and lobbed teargas at a public rally organised by a section of ODM members.
Speaking in a morning interview at a local TV station on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, Kibagendi said that Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen had given instructions to the police to shoot in order to intimidate the leaders from holding the rally.
“The CS gave instructions to the police officers to kill to intimidate us,” Kibagendi said.

In substantiating his statement, Kibagendi has further questioned the reason why the police officers had to shoot at the members of the public, leading to the death of one person during the rally gathering, if there were no instructions to do so.
“Why did that police officer shoot an innocent Kenyan who was running away from the police, and we were having a peaceful meeting?” Kibagendi added.
The lawmaker has slammed the CS after reports emerged that, after chaotic scenes were witnessed at the rally in Kitengela, one person was shot dead during the fracas.
Sifuna reports a fatality in Kitengela rally
On Monday, February 16, 2026, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, who led the rally in Kitengela, announced that one person had been confirmed dead following the attack on the rally on Sunday, February 15, 2026.
Sifuna noted that a 28-year-old was fatally shot by police officers who disrupted the rally. He accused President William Ruto’s administration of being behind the violent attack.

“He tragically lost his life in the fight for a better Kenya at the hands of those who are duty-bound to protect him. He came to join other Kenyans in a peaceful assembly. He committed no crime. He provoked nobody. So why did the police kill him?” Sifuna posed.
Sifuna also faulted President Ruto and Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kipchumba Murkomen for the violence, condemning the use of police and hiring of goons to disrupt public meetings. He intimated that many more persons were injured and property was vandalised as teargas was lobbed to disperse the huge crowd.
