Kiambu senator Thang’wa condemns attack on Godfrey Osotsi, demands swift action
Kiambu Senator Karungo Thang’wa has condemned the attack on Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi in Kisumu County on Wednesday, April 9, 2026 demanding urgent action against the perpetrators.
In a statement shared on his official X account on Thursday, April 9, 2026, the Kiambu Senator described the incident as deeply disturbing and wholly unacceptable, particularly given the stature and public service of the Senator.
“I strongly condemn, in the clearest possible terms, the attack on fellow legislator and Vihiga Senator, Godfrey Osotsi, that occurred yesterday in Kisumu. This incident is deeply disturbing and wholly unacceptable, particularly given the stature and public service of the Senator, as well as the broader implications it carries for the safety of leaders and citizens alike,” Thang’wa stated.
He further stated that acts of violence directed at public officials not only endanger individual lives but also undermine the democratic values upon which the nation is founded.
According to Senator Thang’wa, from preliminary reports and circulating CCTV footage, he says that the attack on the Senator may have been premeditated.
“This raises serious and fundamental questions regarding the motive, including whether the Senator’s recent political positions may have contributed to the incident, or whether other underlying factors were at play. These concerns must be addressed through a thorough, impartial, and transparent investigative process,” he noted.
While calling for urgent action, the Senator has asked the security agencies to identify all those responsible and ensure they are brought to justice in accordance with the law.
“I call upon the relevant investigative and security agencies to act with urgency and diligence to establish the facts, identify all those responsible, and ensure they are brought to justice in accordance with the law,” he said.

Senator Thang’wa further explained that accountability must be swift and unequivocal to reinforce public confidence in various institutions and to deter similar acts in the future.
Meanwhile, he stated that the incident underscores the need to reaffirm the constitutional rights of all Kenyans, including leaders, to freedom of movement, security of person, and access to all parts of the Republic without fear or intimidation.
In addition, the Kiambu Senator maintained that no individual, regardless of their political affiliation or viewpoint, should be subjected to violence or restricted from engaging with the citizens they represent.
“As leaders, we bear a collective responsibility to foster a political environment grounded in tolerance, respect, and the rule of law. Differences in opinion must never descend into hostility or violence. I therefore urge all stakeholders to exercise restraint and to uphold the principles that unite us as a nation,” he added.
“I extend my sincere wishes for a swift and full recovery to Senator Osotsi and stand in solidarity with his family, colleagues, and constituents during this difficult time,” he noted.
