Martha Karua’s People’s Liberation Party (PLP) has called on Kenyan youth to seize the opportunity presented by the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.

In a statement shared via social media on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, PLP said the participation of the youth will be key in shaping the country’s future ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The party encouraged new voters to register and existing voters to transfer their details where necessary, emphasising that the ballot remains the strongest tool for change.

“The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is conducting a Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise for all counties. This initiative provides an opportunity for new voters to register and for existing voters to transfer their registration. We implore our youth to participate in this crucial exercise, as every vote contributes to shaping the future of our nation. You can visit the nearest IEBC offices from Monday, 29th, between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm on working days,” the statement read in part.

The appeal comes after the former Chief Justice David Maraga launched a campaign aimed at adding 5 million new people to the voters’ register ahead of the 2027 general election.

Economic hardship

The party also accused the Kenya Kwanza administration of presiding over economic hardship and weakening institutions, arguing that the voter registration drive provides Kenyans with an opportunity to demand accountability through the ballot.

Elsewhere, leaders allied to the former deputy president, Rigathi Gachagua, urged IEBC to ensure fairness in voter registration.

“This is a pivotal moment for Kenyans to exercise their democratic right and demand a change in leadership. The current administration has overseen a period of economic hardship and institutional decay, and this CVR provides an avenue for citizens to actively work towards replacing the current regime with a more accountable and responsible government,” PLP stated.

PLP further urged citizens, especially the youth, not to waste the moment but to take charge of their future by ensuring they are eligible to vote in 2027.

“By participating in the CVR, we are not only fulfilling our civic duty but also sending a strong message that we will not tolerate bad governance and are ready to usher in a new era of progress and prosperity for all Kenyans. Our votes will be the most potent instrument for ushering in this change. One People. One Purpose,” the statement read.
