Karua and Maraga signal close political cooperation as 2027 race takes shape
Former Chief Justice David Maraga has signalled closer political cooperation with the People’s Liberation Party presidential aspirant Martha Karua, saying they are united in a common mission to deliver to Kenyans ahead of the 2027 elections.
In a statement issued after a State of the Nation forum held at Ufungamano House on June 16, 2026, Maraga expressed gratitude to Karua for attending the event organised by the United Green Movement (UGM) Party.

“I am deeply grateful to Hon. Martha Karua, Presidential Aspirant and Leader of the PLP Party Kenya, for joining us today at Ufungamano House for the UGM Party State of the Nation,” Maraga said.
Maraga’s working relationship with Karua
The former Chief Justice said his working relationship with Karua dates back many years, recalling her service in the judiciary before she entered elective politics.
“Our journey of working together started many years ago when you served this country with courage as a magistrate,” he said.

Maraga further indicated that he and Karua share a common political vision aimed at addressing what they described as governance challenges facing the country under President William Ruto’s administration.
“Together we will deliver for Kenyans the Ukombozi from this extractive state led by the Ruto regime,” Maraga stated.
Karua’s partnership ambition
Karua said she is confident in the partnership and welcomed open political competition, noting that leaders pursuing different political ambitions could still work together on issues of national interest.

“I am here with confidence. I know he is aiming for the presidency, and similarly, I am also aiming, like many others. Competition is healthy,” she said.
Karua emphasised that despite political ambitions, leaders must prioritise cooperation in addressing national challenges, stating that no one could succeed in isolation.
“In this country, nobody can succeed without collaboration. So we are working on how to collaborate,” she added.
